I have been recently interested in the Sizzix Big Shot and Big Kick. With all of the Sizzix machines out there, it is hard to keep up with them all and what one will do or not do. So WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO???
NOTHING with the machine's abilities. The Sizzix Big Shot and Sizzix Big Kick have the same capabilities as each other. Depending on the size die cut you want to use, you still need to use the necessary platforms or pads but the machines do and use the same platforms and pads.
One difference in the two is the color. If you are into the pink and black color scheme, then the Sizzix Big Shot would be perfect for you. The Sizzix Big Kick is red and white.
Another difference is that Sizzix just came out with an electric version of the Big Shot. You don't have to crank the handle anymore. It also costs about $100 more for that feature.
BEST BUYS ON SIZZIX BIG SHOT....If you like the Big Shot pink and black version, there are a couple of best places that I have found to purchase it.
One is on eBay. Many vendors sell the Big Shot as "buy now" and have free shipping. I think that those are your best avenues. If you are willing to auction, you again can great a Big Shot for about $80 but that also includes free shipping. I also found that a few sellers not only had the Big Shot at a great price (between $60-80) but they were also including addtional platforms and pads AND die cuts.
Another equally great place to purchase the pink and black version is on-line at Joanne.com. YOU CAN USE A 40% or sometimes 50% off coupon at Joanne.com. With the coupon, the Big Shot is about $50. Shipping charges vary but I did see on their website that after an initial purchase, shipping was $2.95.
If you want to avoid the coupon search and would like a great price, Amazon.com is offering the pink and black version for only $69.48 PLUS FREE SUPER SAVER SHIPPING! Great price!
Personally, I think that the black and pink version is quite cute. It is sleek looking. If it doesn't matter to you, then you can also purchase the Big Shot in blue. I have never seen the Big Kick except in red and white.
PROS OF BIG SHOT OR BIG KICK...You can use almost any medium with these machines. You can punch cardstock (obviously) but also material and cloth, chipboard, felt, thin wood, thin acrylic, etc. Fairly reasonable price considering other machines especially when you use a coupon or find an incredible deal! There are some really incredible and fun die cuts available with more always being released. The machine is not as heavy as the original Sizzix red machine but continues to be very sturdy and durable. It is great for kids and others who may be newer to crafting then others.
CONS OF BIG SHOT OR BIG KICK...Sometimes storing all of the die cuts can be tricky. Where do you put them all? But it is like every other crafting item.
